CAMDEN REMEMBERS Paul HUOLOHAN (Private 3808)

Birth: Mar 1899 Newtown, Sydney, NSW, Australia Death: 9 Apr 1917 (age 18) Hermies, France, Killed in Action Cemetery or Memorial: Hermies Hill British Cemetery, France Father: Thomas Patrick HUOLOHAN (1867 - 1903) Mother: Ellen (Nellie) HIGGINS (1870 - ) Paul was educated at Bob's Range and Camden Public Schools. His occupation was Clerk when he enlisted in September 1915 in Camden and served in the 1st. Battalion A.I.F. At enlistment he stated his age as 18 years and 6months. According to this mother when she filled out the Memorial Card she stated he was nearly 19 years of age when he died. The permission letter he gave the Army, supposedly written and signed by his mother, was definitely not in her handwriting and looks very much like his own. This would have made him 16 years old when he enlisted. Paul departed Sydney on the 'Medic' 30 December 1915 and arrived France via Egypt April 1916. He was wounded (gunshot wound to left thigh) in action in France July 1916 and sent to the General Military Hospital in Colchester England. He rejoined his battalion in the field March 1917.
